Abstract

Boundary element approach based on Green's functions Y.A. Melnikov, S. Hughes, S. McDaniel Department of Mathematical Sciences, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN 37132, USA ABSTRACT This is an expository lecture that provides a brief introduction to the Green's function method (GFM) which was designed as a modification of the conventional boundary integral equation method. To keep the presentation as consistent and as focused as possible, we restrict our consideration to Laplace's equation in two dimensions. As an example of possible application of the GFM, the procedure is described for the semi-analytical construction of Green's functions to a variety of mixed boundary value problems stated over compound multi-connected regions of complex configuration. Several numerical examples are presented. 1 INTRODUCTION The GFM has been used by many authors in computational continuum mechanics [1-9]. It has proved to be effective in a variety of situation
