Abstract
A boundary element model for diffraction of water waves on varying water depth is presented. The varying depth is treated as a perturbed constant depth, and in doing so the resulting system of equations is significantly reduced. The problem of irregular frequencies are successfully overcome using the so-called CHIEF method. The model is verified against the analytical solution for a circular cylindrical island on a paraboloidal shoal. The results are very good. 1 Introduction The perturbation idea (in the form used here) was originally presented by Rangogni [1] but unfortunately not examined in great detail. The analytical solution with which the model was verified was in some cases used incorrectly, Rangogni [2]. It is the purpose of the present study to further inv
