Abstract
A new formulation is presented for the problem of steady-state thermal ignition in a conducting and radiatively participating medium. In partic- ular, this investigation involves conductive and radiative energy transport in a gray, absorbing-emitting, planar medium bounded by black walls in which the medium generates heat in accordance to a temperature de- pendent Arrhenius term. By isolating the nonlinear contributors in the mathematical description, a new system of coupled nonlinear integral equations is generated conducive to the method of Kumar and Sloan. Numerical results are presented by developing series representations us- ing global basis functions for the newly proposed dependent variables. Finally, some comparisons are made to existing numerical solu
