The purpose of the system is to act as an educational tool to highlight the importance of the Concurrent Engineering methodology as a part of modern design philosophy, and to demonstrate the power of multiple single-function Expert Systems. The work was sponsored by Digital Equipment Corporation. 1. INTRODUCTION The main goal of this research was to define some of the key issues in Concur- rent Engineering (CE), and then to develop a tool, a single-user system called SNEAKERS, to demonstrate these issues to managers and engineers.
