Abstract
Using multiple expert systems with distinct roles in a concurrent engineering system for powder ceramic components S.K. Victor, D.C. Brown, J.J. Bausch, D.C. Zenger, R. Ludwig & R.D. Sisson The Center for Intelligent Processing of Materials, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA ABSTRACT This paper examines the development of a system that integrates design and manufacturing knowledge for the design of components made of powder ceramic materials. This integration of intelligent agents provides the design engineer with immediate feedback concerning the consequences of design deci- sions on production. To accomplish this, analytical and heuristic models were developed to accurately predict processing parameters and production costs. These models also simulate the powder manufacturing process, plan some of the process, and do inspection planning. 1.
