Abstract

Invited paper Fuzzy sensors and controllers L. Foulloy & S. Galichet Laboratoire d'Automatique et de Micro Informatique Industrielle, LAMII / CESALP, Cedex, FRANCE ABSTRACT This paper presents applications of fuzzy sensors in fuzzy control. First, the foun- dations of fuzzy sensors are recalled. Then fuzzy controllers are analysed from a formal point of view. It is shown how fuzzy sensors can be used in Mamdani's or Sugeno's fuzzy controllers. Finally, implementation considerations are dis- cussed. INTRODUCTION In the last few years, artificial intelligence techniques have been introduced in control either to improve the performances or to face the increasing complexity of plants. Among many other techniques relying on symbolic coding, fuzzy con- trol is one of the most classical. Since Zadeh's first papers [25], [6], [26] and the pioneering work of Mamdani [17], [18], [19], [20], thousands of papers have been published on the subject.
