Abstract
The paper considers the link between environmental engineering and general environmental education. It focuses on the issue of the disposal of domestic sanitary waste, and describes a series of sessions with students on a wide variety of courses (including engineering) at the University of Westminster. The sessions had three functions: as a pilot survey of attitudes, as part of an educational programme, and as a small-scale public awareness campaign. The results of the survey of students' attitudes are presented and discussed. 1 Engineering education and environmental education Engineers are directly affected by the public's view of their work and of the issues with which they deal. This should be borne in mind in the education of engineers, and perhaps also in the education of others. For exam
