Abstract
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has, for some years, offered a final year option in Energy and Environmental Management. This has been taught in two separate parts, a 10- week Energy Management module and a 10- week Environmental Management module. The teaching methods were varied and included lectures, tutorials, use of video and slide material and an interactive computer program on Building Energy Management Systems. Visits were made to appropriate nearby industrial and commercial sites and assignments involved a hands-on energy survey on buildings on the campus, report writing and presentations. The staff involved saw the revised structure resulting from a change to semesters as an opportunity to use a more integrated approach to the energy and environmental aspects. With the support
