Abstract
This article presents a method of using expert systems for supporting decisions to be taken in the VTS system operating in the Szczecin-Swinoujscie fairway. The problems of harbour regulations compliance, traffic optimisation and the evaluation of traffic safety in the fairway are considered. The implementation of relevant procedures with the use of the NEXPERT OBJECT program is proposed. 1 Introduction Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) systems play an essential role in enhancing the safety of navigation in areas characterised by heavy traffic.
