Abstract
A numerical model for moored ship behaviour J.A. Ferreira dos Santos Hydraulics Department, Laboratorio Nacional de Engenharia Civil, 1799 Lisboa Codex, Portugal ABSTRACT Since the system ship / mooring lines / fenders presents a clearly non-linear behaviour, one has to use a time domain formulation, relating instantaneous values of forces and movements, to evaluate the behaviour of a moored ship. However, the evaluation of both the hydrodynamic forces, due to ship motions in still water - radiation problem - and the exciting forces, due to wave action on the moored ship - diffraction problem - is usually made by means of a set of coefficients obtained for the same problems in a discrete number of frequencies. This means that a set of problems in the frequency domain has to be solved first in order to study a problem in the time domain. This paper deals with the testing of a package, composed of commercially available programs, which is able to solve the problem of a ship
