Abstract

Irregular frequency removal in 3D shallow water problems D.J. Wang/ M. Kator/ o Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China * Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, Hong Kong Polytechnic, Hong Kong ABSTRACT Green's function is used extensively in seakeeping work for the calculations of the various hydrodynamic forces on structures subject to waves. Both the source distribution and the Green's integral equation methods can be applied in formulating the velocity potential of the flow around the structure. Although computationally fast and applicable to arbitrary-shaped bodies in deep and shallow water, a major disadvantage of these methods is the presence of irregular frequencies for a surface-piercing structure. Hitherto, the problem has been dealt with in 2D and 3D deep water situations only. However, there are situations such as large offshore structures moored in shallow waters where it
