Abstract
T. G. B. DeFigueredo and C. A. Brebbia* proposed a new generation of BEM, based upon the Hybrid Displacement Variational Principle. Among the important advantages of this method are the symmetry of matrix of re- sulting system of algebraic equations, and keeping displacements only as the unknowns. This makes it possible to directly combine BEM with FEM with- out the loss of the advantages of FEM. Therefore it is of great commercial potential. This paper suggests combining Hybrid Displacement Variational Principle with the use of the discontinuous boundary elements for traction discretization, and conventional boundary elements for displacements dis- cretization, thus addresses the corner problem of BEM, and obtains square
