Abstract
Invited Paper Elastic stress analysis techniques for assessing the doming of a cathode ray tube C.Y. Cha", S. Vaidyanathan", J. Summary A cathode ray tube (CRT) is subjected to various loadings, including an internal vac- uum and a compressive load produced by a metallic "shrink band". The stresses in the CRT may be found by both experimental and numerical analysis methods, as can the important doming value, the displacement of the center of the screen. This paper presents a comparison between the finite element method (FEM) and boundary element method (BEM) of modeling and analysis of the component under both loading conditions. The application is of interest because of its relatively thin sec- tion and because of the loading profile. Boundary elements are found to give a much more rapid job turnaround time, and als
