Abstract
The generalized scattering matrix of inhomogeneous E- and H-plane waveguide junctions is computed by means of finite elements combined with a modal expansion approach. This formulation is computationally efficient because it allows solving the problem by using the minimum numbers of electromagnetic fields components, i.e. the H% (or Ey) components for homogeneous (or inhomogeneous) E-plane (or H-plane) junctions, and both the H% and the E% components for inhomogeneous E-plane junctions. 1 Introduction E-plane and H-plane rectangular waveguide junctions are frequently used in microwave components [1] and have been extensively studied in sci
