The effects of fastener elasticity, clearance and friction on the stresses around the hole edge are considered. An efficient numerical procedure is developed for the solution of the two-dimensional contact problems with Coulomb friction between the fastener and the hole based on a complementarity problem formulation. The nonlinear analysis is composed of the combination of Lagrangian formulation of the contact problem, the nonlinear shear stress-shear strain relation in each ply and the nonlinear failure criterion.
