Abstract

As an alternative for water supply for the complex, it was decided in 1990 that aquifers of '-'Bar re-i fa" type be explored in the Polo Cloroquimico of Alagoas- PCA, Brazil. However, the presence of organic chlorides was detected by the strong odor of water consumed by domestic users. Subsequent investigations confirmed aquifer contamination. As per E.P.A. of the U.S.A., the substances found in water were classified as toxic, carcinogenic and ter atogenic. Based on the results of reports which gave probable extension of contaminant plumes, 2-D models of Kinzelbach (1986) for flow and contamination were adopted for the phreatic aquifer and the results exten
