Abstract

During the Iraqi occupation, Kuwait's oil wells were ignited. The burning was extremely destructive to oil resources and air quality. The air quality impact of oil field fires is studied to determine the exposure pollutants level in the major population centers. The period of July-Sept. 1991 is selected for examination and to demonstrate the ground-level concentration of sulphur dioxide. A mathematical model is used to compute ground-level concentration for pollutants generated by 558 burning oil wells in eight oil fields in the principal oil production area during the investigated period. The results are presented as ground-level concentration isopleths. The results of computations are also supported by significant concentrations measured and reported by EPC, Kuwait. The ground
