Abstract
Decision support system for evaluating pump-and-treat remediation alternatives H.S. RifaL" P.B. Bedient" & C.J. Newell Rice University, Houston, Texas, USA ^ Ground water Services Inc., Houston, Texas, USA INTRODUCTION A Decision-Support System (DSS) for evaluating pump-and-treat (P&T) remediation alternatives was developed at Rice University. The pump-and-treat DSS was designed to allow environmental scientists and engineers to design and evaluate the performace of pump-and-treat systems at hazardous waste sites. The P&T DSS consists of three components (Figure 1): (1) a GLOBAL module; (2) a SITE SPECIFIC module; and (3) a SIMULATOR module. Each of the three modules has a different focus and objective. The GLOBAL module, for example, contains databases and training tools and is intended to serve as a reference library for the user. The SITE SPECIFIC module illustrates some of the methods available for evaluating P&T systems using an extensive database from an actual
