Abstract

Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) is an indoor air pollutant containing over 4000 chemical components. ETS is known to cause chronic and acute health effects in non-smokers and this has led to smoking policies in public places to reduce exposure. In the UK a voluntary charter, outlined in a 1998 White Paper on smoking, called for the hospitality industries to introduce measures to reduce ETS exposure. These measures included ventilation, air cleaning and segregation/separation of smoking and non-smoking areas. In this study RSP, UVPM, FPM and SolPM were sampled and analysed for two UK libraries and two bars.
