Abstract

Investigation of Cloud and Precipitation Processes A contribution to subproject PROCLOUD S. Potzsch, B Tenberken and K. Bachmann Darmstadt University of Technology, Petersenstr. 18, 64287 Darmstadt, Germany At present the microchemical and microphysical evolution of clouds and precipitation, which are the major sinks for atmospheric pollutants, are not totally understood. Recent studies indicate a dependence of solute concentration on the drop size (Bachmann et al, 1993a; 1993b; 1995). In order to understand scavenging mechanisms and the chemistry of cloud and raindrops, detailed information about factors controlling the chemical composition and the concentration of solutes in cloud and raindrops dependent on the drop size are required (c/r-dependence). Therefore, special sampling procedures for size-classified and single raindrops (Bachmann et al, 1993b) (volumes: 10 p,L-3 nL) as well as for single fogdrops and clouddrops (Tenberken and Ba
