Abstract
Heterogeneous Processes to be Included in Chemical Mechanisms: Knowns and Unknowns A contribution from the coordinator of subproject CMD Ulrich Schurath Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, IMK - Atmospharische Aerosolforschung, P.O. Box 3640, D-76021 Karlsruhe, Germany In spite of many years of laboratory research in the past, large uncertainties still exist in the chemical codes of Chemistry and Transport Models (CTMs). These models are needed for policy making, e.g. to predict and compare effects of alternative emission reduction strategies on ozone levels and on other environmental issues. The largest uncertainties are attributed to incomplete understanding of, and inaccuracies in, the following domains: 1. detailed degradation schemes of some complex VOCs in the gas phase, such as aromatics, biogenic VOCs, and novel oxygenated VOCs which are already emitted, or will be implemented in the near f
