Abstract
Mechanism of Incorporation of Trace Gases into Ice Particles Invited contribution Florent Domine CNRS, Laboratoire de Glaciologie et Geophysique de I 'Environnement, BP 96, 38402 Saint Martin d'Heres cedex, France Introduction Analyses of fresh snow indicate that both dissolved trace gases and scavenged aerosol particles can contribute to its chemical composition (Mitchell and Lamb, 1989; Silvente and Legrand, 1995; Domine et al., 1995). The mechanism of incorporation of trace gases into ice particles is therefore one of the atmospheric phenomena that must be investigated to understand and predict the composition of atmospheric ice. Such understanding will also lead to an improved parameterisation of ice cloud chemistry models. Besides its application to cloud chemistry, understanding the exchanges of trace gases between ice and the atmosphere is also required to rec
