Abstract
Mapping the 8-Hour Running Mean Ozone Concentration Exceedance of the National Standard for the UK A contribution to subproject TOR-2 M. Coyle\ D Fowler', R.L Smith' and J.R. Stedman^ ^Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, Edinburgh Research Station, Bush Estate, Edinburgh, EH26 OQB, UK ^AEA Technology pic, National Environmental Technology Centre, Culham, Abingdon, Oxon, OX 14 3DB, UK The Expert Panel on Air Quality Standards (EPAQS) recommended an 8- hour running mean of 50 ppb as an air quality standard for Os (EPAQS, 1994) and this has been proposed as the UK standard, measured as the 97th percentile of daily maximum 8-hour running means. In order to asses the degree to which the standard is exceeded throughout the country the UK Photochemical Oxidants Review Group (PORG) calculated maps of the number of days per year on which the 8 hour running mean exceeded 50 ppb.
