Abstract
Kinetics and Mechanisms for the Reaction of Cl Atoms with Halogenated Alcohols A contribution to subproject CMD. M Manning, J. Treacy and H Sidebottom Chemistry Department, University College Dublin Belfield, Dublin 4, Ireland Introduction Relatively little information is available in the literature concerning the reaction of difunctionalised organic compounds with radical species. In this study the kinetics and mechanisms for the reactions of Cl atoms with a series of halogenated ethanols CXsCI^OH (X = H, Cl or F) have been investigated. The rate constants were determined using a photolytic relative rate method at 298 ± 2 K and atmospheric pressure and oxidation products monitored using FTIR spectroscopy. The Cl-atom rate coefficients are compared with those for the analogous reactions of OH radicals. Experimental Relative rate and product studies were carried out at atmospheric pressure an
