Abstract
Comparative Study about Aerosol Sampling at the Melpitz Research Station in Saxony A contribution to subproject AEROSOL K Muller, G. Spindler and H Herrmann Institutfur Tropospharenforschung e.V., Permoserstr. 15, D-04303 Leipzig, Germany Introduction The research station, Melpitz, was established in 1991 during the SANA programme (Scientific observation programme for the rehabilitation of the atmosphere above the new States of Germany). Melpitz is located in northern Saxony (41 km from Leipzig in main wind direction) nearby Torgau. This place, an old flat meadow, is one of the best characterised research stations in atmospheric sciences in Europe. The aerosol constituents changed during this time from a sulfate dominated aerosol type to a more nitrate dominated aerosol with episodes of high sulfate concentrations. Highest aerosol concentrations were observed during winter periods with stable wind direction from the East. Fro
