Abstract

Heterogeneous Uptake Measurements of Ozone using a Wetted-Wall Flow Reactor Guest contribution B Miiller and MR Heal Department of Chemistry, University of Edinburgh, West Mains Road, Edinburgh, EH9 3JJ, UK. Introduction An understanding of the removal of trace organic compounds from the atmosphere is essential for determining their fate in the environment and it is now recognised that many important atmospheric reactions occur inside droplets of clouds and fogs (e.g. Davidovits et a/., 1995; Ravishankara, 1997). The heterogeneous process consists of a number of steps (gas diffusion, accommodation at the surface, liquid solubility, reaction and diffusion) and mathematical expressions have been developed to describe the mass transfer resistance for each step. The observed overall uptake coefficient, y, approaches the surface accommodation coefficient, a, in the limit of negligib
