Abstract
Experimental Insight into Inhibition of S(IV) Autoxidation by Some Organics A contribution to subproject CMD K J Rudzinski and W Pasiuk-Bronikowska Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Kasprzaka str. 44-52, 01-224 Warszawa, Poland Introduction Following our computational insight into the inhibition of S(IV) by some organics (Pasiuk-Bronikowska and Rudzinski, 1997) we present the experimental insight into the process. To start with we investigated the Mn and Co-catalysed autoxidation of sulfite inhibited by TEMPO stable radicals (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl). TEMPO was proved to be a powerful stabiliser of sulfite solutions against oxygen, acting probably by scavenging selectively the SOg radicals (Pasiuk-Bronikowska et al, 1996). Here it serves as a model of various nitroxyl compounds present in the atmosphere. Our main goal was to provide experimental
