Abstract
Ozone-Affected Autoxidation of Aqueous SO] in the Presence of Calcium A contribution to subproject CMD W Pasiuk-Bronikowska, T Bronikowski, M Ulejczyk and J Krolik Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, Kasprzaka 44/52, 01-224 Warszawa, Poland Preliminary remarks These investigations are aimed at clarifying the mechanism of aqueous phase oxidation of S(IV) simultaneously by Os and O: Although rates of S(IV) oxidation by the oxidants have been studied by others over a wide range of reaction parameters, both in the absence and presence of a catalyst, in most of the cases stopped-flow techniques were applied to homogenous systems. As both reactants competing for S(IV) are gaseous and their gas-phase concentrations and rate constants may differ by orders of magnitude, it is of use to extend this mechanism by accounting for mass-transfer effects.
