Abstract
Health and Environmental Impacts and Resulting Damage Costs from Air Pollution in Europe Guest contribution Wolfram Krewitt, Rainer Friedrich, Alfred Trukenmliller, Petra Mayerhofer and Thomas Heck Institut fur Energiewirtschaft und Rationelle Energieanwendung (IER), Hefibruhlstr. 49 a, D-70565 Stuttgart, Germany Introduction Increased levels of air pollution lead to a wide range of negative impacts, including effects on human health, damage to building materials, and impacts on ecosystems. However, increasing emission reduction requires more and more expensive measures. To achieve acceptance for air pollution control, it is increasingly important to show that the benefits of emission reductions outweigh the costs. The quantification of environmental impacts and resulting damage costs helps to take into account environmental aspects in rational policy making. Damage
