Abstract
The Role of EMEP in Abatement Strategies within The Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollutants Invited contribution from UN-ECE (EMEP) Martin Williams Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, Air and Environment Quality Div., 4E14, Ashdovm House, 72? The EMEP Protocol was the first of the Protocols to be agreed under the UNECE Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution. The CLRTAP convention was agreed in 1979 and was conceived to address the problem of acidification in northern Europe. The EMEP Protocol was established in 1984 to provide the scientific underpinning for the Convention and the subsequent Protocols which have been agreed within it.
