In particular the changes in flow conditions due to the proximity of the cylinder to a bottom plate placed at various distances are analysed. Tests are performed on a rectangular cylinder placed in a wind tunnel of about lm x lm main section in which the height of the cylinder is adjustable to cover all possible ranges of interest. Direct force measurements on the cylinder are carried out using two dynamometers to evaluate all relevant aerodynamic coefficients. Drag, lift and pitch are measured at different flow speeds and bottom heights with an easier-to-manage experimental set-up than in the case of a water channel.
