Abstract
Experimental and numerical investigation of bore impact on a wall F. Trivellato Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Trento, Italy Hydrodynamic forces are generated by the collision of a bore on a wall and the knowledge of such dynamic load is relevant in the rational design of structures. The experimental and numerical investigation of a dam-break bore advancing over an inclined dry bed and striking a wall is new in literature. In the present work experimental tests have been performed that were originally intended to simulate debris-flow collisions on plane walls. While physical quantities of interest have been collected and already partly processed in the past, further elaborations are proposed for the darn-break bore which is considered in this study. The maximum wall force occurs well before the time of the maximum run-up of the flow upward along the wall. The maximum wall force, scaled by the fourth power of the toe velocity, is related to the ,B coefficient,
