Abstract
Water waves in harbour areas: appreciation of open boundary conditions M. Houari*, P. Sergent", D. An integral equation is written on an arc of circle for a harbour area limited by two semi-infinite fully reflective straight dikes of any direction. This formulation, providing useful idealized tests for practical use, is compared, in an analytical test case and for a schematic harbour, with simplified and full parabolic approximations. Parabolic approximations provide excellent results if the reflected wavefield generated from the exterior dikes is perfectly known. 1 Introduction Water waves in harbour areas are usually computed with the elliptic mild slope wave equation.
