Abstract
This paper is a case study about the maintenance of historical buildings in the city of Belo Horizonte - Brazil. The authors discuss the management strategies adopted by the local government to protect the cultural heritage. The analyses are based in the toggle between groups interested in the economic-technological development of the city and the maintenance of architectural heritage. In this case, the strategies of management of the local government try to articulate the concepts of collective memory, identity and cultural citizenship to the economic efficiency.
