Abstract
The paper contains an analysis of the costs involved in the repair and strengthening of the traditional stone-masonry buildings which were damaged in the western part of Slovenia, next to the River Soca, by the earthquake of 1998. Most of the damaged buildings consisted of older, stone-masonry buildings having one or two storeys, which are typical of the local architecture. The general post-earthquake renewal policy required that as many existing buildings as possible be repaired and strengthened so that villages as a whole retained their previous appearance, and that
