Development and safety certification of DSP - based line current interference monitor for rail vehicles D. Wiirgler*, C. Modern chopper or inverter vehicles are often equipped with line current monitors. Conventional interference monitors open the main circuit breaker of the vehicle when the permitted levels of interference are exceeded. Unnecessary monitor trips, particularly in response to transients, reduce the operational reliability of the trains. The paper describes a new concept with a strong focus on the detection of vehicle faults at an early stage. The digital signal processor based system compares the interference generated by the vehicle not only with the strict limits, but also with the expected interference p
