Abstract
Moving block and traffic management in railway applications: the EC project COMBINE M. Giuliari*, F. Pellegrini^ & S. Savio* Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica, Universita di Genova, Italy *' DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems (Italia) S.p.A, Roma, Italy Abstract In the Fourth Framework Research and Development (R&D) Programme, the European Union (EU) has promoted, within Telematics Application Programme, several projects, devoted to Transport Sector, containing high profile telematics technology applied to planning and operational tasks. In this paper the authors present the main characteristics of one of these projects, called COMBINE, acronym of enhanced COntrol center for a Moving Block signalling systEm. The project aims to lay the technical basis for the implementation of innovative optimisation tools in moving block traffic management systems; this requires both the analysis of moving block operation parameters and the definition of an effective system architecture for control syste
