Abstract
The goal of this paper is to study the cost effectiveness of various optimisation methods in a machine design project aimed at satisfying customer and producer needs for more optimal joints in a terrain vehicle series. First, concepts are generated using heuristics, systematics and modular design methodology with initial topology and component design variables. The best concept is chosen for the next stage. Field tests of the present models are used to obtain load histories and stresses of critical locations. These are compared with the results of dynamics simulation with virtual machine models. Then an analytical optimisation program based on freebody section
