Abstract

This paper concerns about the development of crashworthiness maximization technique for shell structures, and the application to the axial crushing problem of cylinder. In the program system presented here, an implicit finite element code, DYNA3D, is adopted for simulating complicate crushing behavior of shell struc- tures, and the response surface approximation technique is used to construct an approximated design subproblem in the preassigned design space based upon the technique of design-of-experiment. The approximated subproblem has been solved by the usual mathematical programming technique. 1 Introduction Investigation of crushing energy absorption is very important and is expected in a safety design point of view of passenger vehicles. Many researchers have con- centrated to dev
