Abstract
Pollution is one of the most often cited external costs of motor vehicle use. Estimating this cost requires information about the relationships between driving behaviour, traffic flow, emissions, atmospheric distribution and impacts. Pollution due to urban traffic means a very high proportion of the overall emissions in a metropolitan area as Madrid. In a recent study about this matter, emissions of CO, NO% and SO? have been calculated based on intensity of traffic and fuel consumption. At the same time, a complete grid of pollution stations, set by Municipal Government of Madrid, are computing half-hourly data about pollutants concentration and other meteorological parameters.
