Abstract

Some experiences of running a parallel traffic assignment algorithm in a GIS environment are shown. The GIS software is used as user interface to the integrated system, making it possible to view results from the traffic assignment. The parallelization is necessary to meet the needs of the end users. Two important examples are signal setting in real time and the estimation of OD-matrices using traffic counts reported by sensors in real time. 1 Introduction In the project LINPARC-TRAFFIC (LINkoping PARallelising Consortium), which is a part of EC-ESPRIT m /EUROPORT2 (European Porting Project No 2), VTI has cooperated with researchers from the University in Linkoping and also with the local authority in Linkoping. EUROPORT2 is intended to build confidence in the application potential of parallel high performance computer (HPC) platforms
