Abstract
This paper describes the purpose and application of a computer based systems engineering tool in a railway mega project. Such tools have been extensively used in complex, high cost aerospace and defence projects but have hardly been used in railway applications such as railway extensions, new lines or major renewals of railway infrastructure with comparable parameters. These tools manage risk (delivery, technical, supply, safety, reliability and commercial risk), provide a focal point for teams working on such projects, aid auditing and assist in producing specifications, safety cases and reliability cas
