Abstract
Steel railway bridges with orthotropic deck were investigated and their static, dynamic and fatigue behaviours show some interesting events. Both theoretical and experimental methods were applied to the representation of their global and local stresses, especially near the cutouts in the web of cross beams. 1 Introduction Steel railway bridges with orthotropic decks represent an important kind of spatial structures in which the orthotropic deck serves as a plate dis- tributing the load and ballast. The deck is supported by main girders and cross beams and is frequently stiffened by longitudinal ribs (stringers).
