Abstract
Two issues are discussed in this paper; the first is the principal aspect of the adap- tive boundary element scheme called "sampled point error analysis and extended error indicator" developed earlier by one of the present authors; and the second is an extension of the above-mentioned scheme to the problem with subregion partition. The concept is based not only onelement-wise solution error but also its influence on the solution inconsistency of the boundary integral equation, which is more genuine in the framework of the collocation-type direct boundary element methods formulated in terms of boundary variables of different dimensions. Introduction Analysis by proper discretized elements and/or meshes, finite elements for the finite element method (FEM) and boundary elements for the boundary element met
