Abstract

SDIS: An intelligent design system for the configurational optimization of structures X.T. Wang, Z.P. Wang, C.L. Shuai, F. Du, Q.X. Yang Department of Aircraft Engineering, Northwestern ABSTRACT A Structural Design Intelligent System named SDIS, developed for the configurational optimization of structures is introduced. The frame of SDIS is first presented. Knowledge acquisition and pattern association methods are suggested based on Artificial Neural Net- work and Pattern Recognition techniques. A Fighter's swept wing's configurational optimization of structure is implemented in the sys- tem. It shows that SDIS is a very potential intelligent design system for configurational design of structures. 1. INTRODUCTION Configurational Optimization of Structures (COS) means to select the number and the layout of structural components in order to get an optimum or satisfying initial structural configuration. Without start- ing with a good structural configuration, the optimiza
