Yasu, Miyake 800, Yasu, Shiga 520-23, Japan ABSTRACT This paper considers a shape optimization in an elastic contact problem. The object of the study is to redesign the contact surface so that the distribution of the force between contact surfaces of elastic bodies may be uniform. Then, the objective function is the variance of the nodal force and the constraint is the volume constancy. This paper uses a simple algorithm to minimize the objective function from the consideration of me- chanical character of the contact problem.
