Abstract
In the last years the light rail or trolley has had a renaissance in the world. In every western country cities upgrade their systems (e.g. Hannover) or create new networks (e.g. Manchester and Sheffield). Traffic and environ- mental problems in urban areas caused this development. However, it is very expensive to build up these lines completely new. So it is necessary to find possibilities of using existing tracks and upgrade the capacity, or if there is no passenger traffic today to use these lines for different traf- fic modes, for example railbuses, light rail or guided buses.
