Abstract

A parametric investigation on the strength, failure envelopes, stress-strain curves and failure modes of Roman masonry under biaxial loading is being attempted using a specific F.E. program for the nonlinear analysis of masonry micromodels. The principal stresses ratio and the angle between the principal axes of loading and the direction of mortar joints are introduced as parameters. 1 Introduction In spite of the great interest, in our days, on preservation of the Architectural Heritage, the knowledge on the mechanical behaviour of Roman or Byzantine masonry under uniaxial and much more under biaxial loading is very limited, as far as the writers of the present paper are able to know. Only two experimental research programs on the behavi
