Abstract
In this paper the efficiency is evaluated of the main approaches to the analysis of masonry structures, subjected to horizontal actions, starting from the approximate methods up to specifically studied methods of automatic calculation. First of all the topicality of the "Limit Analysis" theory is evaluated, pointing out the benefits and the limitations of the methods based on its "Static" and "Cinematic" theorems. Then, after a critical analysis of general pourpose procedures following the F.E. approach used in non-linear analyses of masonry structures, a new method specifically studied to analyse masonry walls subjected to static equivalent actions is shown. 1 Introduction The "Limit Analysis" is a usefull tool to evaluate the bearing capacity of masonry structures, although th
