Abstract

The Hole Drilling Method is widely used in Industry and the Research Centres for obtaining Residual Stresses and Stresses for all kinds of components. Principal Stresses and their directions in any accesible point of measurement can be obtained. This paper is about the applicability of this technique to the Constructions of the Historical Heritage, with the purpose of obtaining the stresses supporting its structural elements. Two cases in which the method has been used in Spain are hereby introduced: The Santa Maria Cathedral in the city of Vitoria -thirteenth and fourteenth century Gothic style- and the "Botines Building" in the city of Leon by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi.
